Hotel Facilities

Quick description

Originally built as a convent in 1480, the hotel, situated within the Medieval wall of Volterra, has been completely renovated in order to offer modern comforts whilst maintaining its historic charm.

Situated in Via San Lino, the hotel is only a five minute walk from Piazza dei Priori, the centre around which the major part of daily and cultural life of Volterra revolves. Outside the Medieval wall, just a brief distance from the hotel, you can admire the Roman Amphitheatre and then follow the pathway along the wall in order to take in the splendid panorama across the valley with the imposing church of San Giusto.

On the first floor of the hotel you can find the garden and sun terrace. Here, surrounded only by tranquillity, it is possible to relax on a sun-bed or take a refreshing swim in the pool.

Hotel information

An internet point can be found tucked away in a discreet corner near to the reception area on the ground floor.

Room information

Refined and elegant, the rooms have been furnished with care and attention being paid to the smallest detail: cherry wood furniture; wall-to-wall carpet; and curtain drapes. The standard of these rooms is complimented by the numerous comforts which can be found within.

Food & beverage

Consisting of three halls, decorated in a simple but welcoming style, Hotel San Lino's in-house restaurant, Le Monache, is available for guests who choose the half-board option. The choices available on the menu are closely tied to Tuscan culinary traditions.

The hotel has a small bar where you can order drinks (to be consumed in the bar area, in the restaurant or in the internal courtyard).

Area information

Hotel San Lino is situated just a few metres inside the medieval door, bearing the name of "San Francesco", which faces the Provincial highway. The hotel therefore, is extremely easy to reach from all directions: from Pisa, from Siena or from the coast.

A haven of Etruscan, Roman, Medieval and Renaissance art, Volterra dominates the Cecina Valley, 550 metres above sea level, affording a spectacular view to the sea. The city still retains traces of its majestic past which gradually unfurls as you wander through the narrow streets and explore the Etruscan Museum, the Art Gallery and Museum of Sacred Art.

Volterra's charm lies not only in its historical patrimony but in the surrounding countryside, an area of untouched beauty with a slow ,traditional way of life and age-old tradition of alabaster carving. Being one of the most unspoiled areas in the region, close to other important art centres and the coast, this is an ideal choice for a holiday in Tuscany.
