The Hotel Engel is located in the heart of Altenburg's listed Old Town, just 2 minutes away from its historic marketplace.
From here you can comfortably reach the town's many cultural and architectural attractions on foot.
This family-run hotel offers 12 guest rooms.
Hotel information
In our cosy restaurant with separate corner for playing the local card game of "Skat", you can enjoy Thuringian specialities as well as German and international dishes. During good weather you can relax on our garden terrace whilst enjoying a view of the Old Town or the surrounding countryside. Our bar is housed within an ancient vaulted cellar, and is regularly open at weekends from 21:00 onwards. By prior arrangement, the cellar may also be used on other days of the week.
The building was constructed in 1880.

In addition to our à la carte menu, we can cater for parties of up to 45 persons.

Altenburg is centrally located between the large cities of Leipzig, Zwickau and Chemnitz.
Travel information
By car:
- Arriving in Altenburg via the B7, drive via Schmöllnsche Landstrasse,
Puschkinstrasse, Beim Goldenen Pflug, Lindenaustrasse to
Humboldstrasse.
- Arriving via the B93 in Altenburg, drive via Leipziger Strasse, Schloss,
Theater to Burgstrasse.
- Coming into Altenburg via the B180, follow Zeitzer Strasse and
Lindenaustrasse until you reach Humboldstrasse.
Cancellation policy
Cancellation Policy: If cancelled or modified up to 2 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged.
If cancelled or modified later or in case of no-show, 80 percent of all nights will be charged.
Children and Extra Bed Policy: All children are welcome.
One child under 7 years stays free of charge when using existing bedding.
One child under 2 years is charged EUR 15.00 per night in a baby cot.
One older child or adult is charged EUR 25.00 per night in an extra bed.
Maximum capacity of extra beds/babycots in a room is 1.
Deposit Policy: No deposit will be charged.
VAT and city/tourist taxes: VAT is included.
Service charge is included.
City/tourist tax is not applicable.
Internet: Wireless internet is available in the entire hotel and charges are applicable.
Meal Plan: Buffet breakfast is included in the room rate.
Parking: Private parking is possible on site (reservation is needed) and costs EUR 4.00 per day.
Pets: Pets are allowed on request. No extra charges.
